Mikey Eyssimont – pronounced “A-C-mont” – is ready to “leave it all out there” for the San Jose Sharks.

Eyssimont spoke on Zoom, on the way to San Jose via Vancouver, after the Sharks claimed him off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets this morning.

“I’m a player who comes to play every single night,” the 6-foot-0 winger said. “Try to bring some grit, some tenacity. Hold onto pucks below the goal line and try to make plays through the neutral zone. Reliable defensively as well.”

The San Jose Sharks got lighter in tenacity last month when they lost Luke Kunin for the season, so perhaps Eyssimont can fill the void. On the Jets, per Natural Stat Trick, he was second among forwards at 11.37 Hits Per 60 at 5-on-5.

That tenacity can also apply to offense: Eyssimont was second among Winnipeg forwards at 15.6 Shot Attempts Per 60. He also led the Manitoba Moose in shots last year.

“I think he’s one of the most hated people in the division,” Moose teammate Nick Jones said, as a compliment, of Eyssimont’s style of play last season.

“I definitely have a reputation for being hard to play against, and I’m only trying to build off that,” Eyssimont said, stressing that he’s not a dirty player. “I want players to know I’m there and know who I am, that I’m not going to put up with anything. Stand up for my teammates.”

The 26-year-old should compete with bottom-six wingers Evgeny Svechnikov, Jonah Gadjovich, Oskar Lindblom, and Noah Gregor for playing time on the San Jose Sharks. Eyssimont noted that he’s good friends with Svechnikov and San Jose Barracuda winger C.J. Suess from their time in the Jets organization.
