San Jose Sharks
Meier Named Sharks Player of the Year…How Did I Vote?
The San Jose Sharks have announced their 2021-22 team awards.
The media voted for Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Media Good Guy. Check out my votes and tell me who you would’ve voted for.
The San Jose Sharks organization selected Prospect of the Year.
Player of the Year
Timo Meier won 2021-22 Sharks Player of the Year.
As of Apr. 23, Meier leads the San Jose Sharks in points, goals, power play goals, power play points, and even strength points. He’s also third in the NHL with 309 shots.
This is the second time in three years that Meier has been voted Sharks Player of the Year. Evander Kane was last year’s winner.
In this order, I voted for Meier, James Reimer, and Brent Burns.
“You can see he was fully confident all season long,” Tomas Hertl said of Meier winning Player of the Year. “Really happy for him, after you can say a little tough year last year. He just bounced back really well and proved he can be one of the best wingers in the NHL.”
The thing that stood out about Meier this season? Just how much the San Jose Sharks offense revolves around him:
Rookie of the Year
Jonathan Dahlen won 2021-22 Sharks Rookie of the Year.
As of Apr. 23, Dahlen leads all San Jose Sharks rookies in games played, goals, assists, points, even strength points, power play points, and shots.
For what it’s worth, Jake Middleton would’ve been my vote had he stayed in San Jose, but we could only vote for current Sharks. Nikolai Knyzhov won this award last year.
In this order, I voted for Dahlen and Nicolas Meloche.
I know that Dahlen had a rough second half, but this is who he can be in the best league in the world:

Media Good Guy
James Reimer won 2021-22 Sharks Media Good Guy.
Per the San Jose Sharks, this “award is presented annually to the player who handles his media responsibilities with cooperation, honesty and thoughtfulness, and answers the bell no matter the outcome or situation.”
Logan Couture has won this award the last two seasons.
In this order, I voted for Reimer, Couture, and Tomas Hertl.
This was probably my favorite Reimer story this year:
Prospect of the Year
The San Jose Sharks selected Brandon Coe as 2021-22 Sharks Prospect of the Year.
Per the Sharks: “The 20-year-old forward dominated the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the North Bay Battalion this campaign, smashing previous career-highs in every major offensive category. He scored 101 points, good for fifth most among OHL skaters, and lead North Bay in assists and points.”
The Sharks picked Coe in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
