San Jose Sharks
What’s Been So Special About Meier’s Last Week?
Check out my “Sharks (Postgame) Live” hit!
Sheng Peng: Timo Meier has been a shot machine
Meier’s career-high for shot attempts in a game is 14.
He’s done that twice in his career, both times in the last week, last Thursday in Vancouver and a couple days ago in Anaheim.
This is how much he’s shooting — five times in his career, the San Jose Sharks’ All-Star has attempted 13 or 14 shots in a game
Four of those five occurrences have been just this season.
Speaking of Timo, it’s too bad fans are missing a special year from Meier
Yesterday, San Jose Sharks president Jonathan Becher addressed the record-low attendance at SAP Center this season
SAP Center has been at 68 percent capacity this year — that’s a 30 percent drop from 2018-19.
Becher said COVID was mostly to blame, from cautious people not sure about going to mega-events to people who don’t want to deal with vaccination or mask mandates
It doesn’t help the San Jose Sharks are also a .500 team, on track to miss the playoffs for a third straight season.
Anyway, Becher’s premise is about to be put to the test: Santa Clara County is about to lift indoor mask mandates on Mar. 2, the last Bay Area county to do so.
And today, San Jose mayor Sam Liccardo proposed the end of vaccine booster mandates in city-owned facilities like SAP Center.
Will we see a spike in the crowds even if the Sharks continue to fall out of the playoff race?
