SJHN Daily: Celebrini Loses Bet, Has To Wear Will Smith’s College Jersey

Rivalries in hockey run deep.
Ahead of the San Jose Sharks’ game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Macklin Celebrini was evidently reminded of that. While Will Smith strolled in with his suit and tie, Celebrini wore Smith’s jersey from Boston College, the arch-nemesis of Celebrini’s Alma mater, Boston University.
Macklin Celebrini confirmed after the Sharks’ 2-1 victory over the Pens that he had lost a bet: “Made a bet when BU and BC played [this past weekend] and…they swept, so had to put the jersey on, which didn’t feel right.”
He added that Smith picked the specific BC jersey: “He made sure it was the one that he beat us in.”
The Eagles topped the Terriers in the Hockey East Championship last year.
Smith and Celebrini both spent one season with their respective universities before turning professional with the Sharks this season. The teams played four times, with Smith’s Boston College winning three. In those matchups, Smith had nine points, including a four-goal game on Mar. 23, while Celebrini had four points, all goals, in the season series.
The two teams, without Smith and Celebrini of course, met this past weekend, with Boston College defeating the Terriers on both Friday and Saturday by a combined score of 8-2.
