No doubt, Luca Cagnoni has opened eyes around the league this season.

Going into the year, the odds were against Cagnoni establishing a significant NHL career.

He was 5-foot-9 defenseman, much smaller than the average NHL blueliner. He was a mid-round pick, selected in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft.

But after an explosive AHL debut — Cagnoni has 47 points in just 56 games with the San Jose Barracuda, second among all blueliners in the league — he’s now in the NHL.

What have NHL scouts, none with the San Jose Sharks, seen from Cagnoni this year? What’s his ceiling and where can he improve?
