career 0.75 pt/g (0.58 this season) regular season, 0.87 pt/g playoffs. not an elite player during the regular season. career playoffs CF% 57.7/56.7% regular (51% this season)). 0.36 career goal pace; 0.40 assists pace. more sniper than setup man. 48.3% career (49.3% this season) FO%. when you look at the Sharks core scoring network, it’s not good that LC is 4th/5th best F in that regard. Hertl, Kane, and Meier exceed his play driving metrics. Labanc had close to double his A1 pace this season. LC was actually 5th in TP/60 (1.82); 4th in ixG/60 (barely edging out KL 0.82);… Read more »

Agree or disagree, the Sharks don’t think Couture is the 4th or 5th-best F on the team. And it’s not a contract thing. Personally, I do think Hertl has surpassed him overall and Kane is right there, but I’d take a healthy Couture over Labanc and Meier any day. I don’t expect Couture to replicate his first-half scoring pace if he can get through 2021-22 healthier, but I tend to believe he was banged up more than he let on in the 2nd half of this year.

if the Sharks get Granlund in FA they could move LC over to 2LW. LC is the better shooter, and while i don’t think Granlund is a massive upgrade at the center position over LC, having both on the same line could pay big dividends. i’d rather have LC as 2LW than as 3C. Granlund’s better at taking draws, and there’s more setup man in him than with LC i think. Herl’s been the de facto 1C for a couple of seasons. i think EK9 edges LC on wing too. not as talented of a pure shooter as LC, but… Read more »

both LC and EK9 got out shot badly when KL was taken off their line and demoted to play with PM/NG/whomever happened to be in the line up that night. KL’s shot rates only tanked at the same time. that new Eriksson Ek contract makes KL’s look even better. i know the Minny F plays all situations for them, but comparing his 5v5 play this season to KL, they’re very similar stat-wise: zone starts, points pace, TOI, etc.
