Trade Deadline Mailbag: Who Do Sharks Deal at Draft, What’s Boughner Done Right?

Published

on

The Trade Deadline has come and gone, and the San Jose Sharks were incredibly busy. With every move the Sharks made, there were reactions and questions from fans across the board.

So, we decided to crack open the mailbag for everyone to submit those questions to shed some light on the Sharks’ Trade Deadline moves. Quick thank you to Twitter followers who submitted their question(s) — without you this episode/podcast is meaningless!

We kicked the episode off with a quick recap of the trades that the Sharks made (3:57).

We react to the Jake Middleton trade and why the San Jose Sharks moved him (7:00).

We then clarify what contract talks the Sharks have had with Alexander Barabanov (10:00).

In doing so, we answer @eklundforcalder’s question “Why would they not talk to Barabanov if they didn’t plan to trade him?”

We start our mailbag off with a question from @gray_tj: “Any news on Doug Wilson? How is he doing?” (18:24)

Next question came from @BayAreaSportsF: “How is management going to sell to fans that next season is going to be different from the last three seasons?” (20:23)

Afterwards, we tackle the most requested topic out there: Since the San Jose Sharks acquired Kaapo Kähkönen in the Jake Middleton trade, they now have three NHL-caliber goaltenders.

The main question of concern what will the Sharks do moving forward in regards to the goaltender situation? Thank you to users @C_Dyczkowsky, @GarrettLarson1, @Stoney38788507, @cl0xwork, and @green_eggsndsam for your questions (26:35).

Then @RobesonMatt asked, “With Middleton gone, who will replace him? If it’s an external replacement, who would be an example?” and “Do you think that the Sharks need to add more right-shot forwards?” (41:05)

Next question came from @9ersfans: “With Midds now gone, does that change a decision to buy out Vlasic — now that they are down a LD and Knyzhov still being a question mark for next season.” (49:00)

Then @BSchmonsees asked, “How did Megna and Meloche end up being in the lineup? I don’t think anyone envisioned those guys as NHL players. Did they progress or did guys like Simek and Hataaka fail to grab the reins?” and “Are the Sharks one Reilly Smith signing away from a playoff spot?” (57:48)

Fan of our GM role play @radioheadliner asked, “How does the Hertl extension and today’s moves change how you move forward?” (1:04:16)

Next question was from @jalexander46: “Do you think the Sharks move either Reimer, Burns, Labanc, Simek, or Vlasic at the draft?” (1:06:09)

It wouldn’t be a San Jose Sharks mailbag if questions about Bob Boughner weren’t in there. @SharksJosh95 asked, “What would have to happen for Bob Boughner to be relieved of his duties in the middle of next season?” (1:08:40)

@ryfernandez follows that question up: “Why is Bob Boughner still the right person to be coaching this team? What’s expected of him the rest of this season?” (1:10:44)

@AJG20201 asked, “Do you know if Russian and Belarusian players will be eligible for the NHL draft with everything going on?” (1:20:25)

Then @RedSharkPack asked, “What the hell is going on with the Evgenii Dadonov trade?” (1:21:30).

We wrap up our mailbag with a question from @ZEKEandMO: “How do the Sharks wind up better than [the Kings and Ducks in the coming years]? (1:28:19).
