Greetings from Canada, Talking Karlsson on PDOCast

TORONTO – Greetings from Canada!

It’s been a good trip so far, at least for my stomach. Got my Schwartz’s fix in Montreal, though I missed out, to my chagrin, on St-Viateur’s unparalleled bagels. Tried Seven Lives Tacos and a fried chicken sandwich from Insomnia Restaurant in Toronto, both solid, though I’m sorry I missed out on old favorite Banh Mi Boyz.

Now on to lovely Kanata, the Glendale of Canada!

Thank you again, San Jose Hockey Now readers, for helping fund my coverage of the San Jose Sharks through Berlin, Prague, and New York. I’m coming to you again to ask for contributions to my Travel Tip Jar. Hate to do so again so early in the season, but a trip to Europe isn’t a normal way to start the year, so my travel budget is a little higher this season.

Please select “For friends and family” in PayPal so that 100 percent of your contribution goes to SJHN’s travels. You can also Venmo me at @shengpeng.

Anything helps and 100 percent of your contributions go to my travel expenses. Just to give you a rough idea of what they look like on this trip through Canada.

Flight: San Francisco to Dallas to Montreal, $400
AirBNB: Montreal for 2 nights, $150
Train: Montreal to Toronto, $60
AirBNB: Toronto for 1 night, $150
Train: Toronto to Ottawa, $60
AirBNB: Ottawa for 3 nights, $310
Flight: Ottawa to Buffalo, $7800 (this is the actual lowest cost of a non-stop flight from Ottawa to Buffalo on Kayak)
Flight: Ottawa to Toronto, $130
Train: Toronto to Buffalo, $70
Hotel: Buffalo for 1 night, $100
Flight: Buffalo to Chicago to San Francisco, $430

Just FYI, I try to stay within walking distance of the arenas, to be more efficient with my time and save on rideshare expenses. I take trains because they’re usually much cheaper than flights. Also, their motion is steady – as opposed to buses – so I can work on them.

Something else I did in Canada? I jumped on Dimitri Filipovic’s PDOCast to talk all things San Jose Sharks, and we got in deep on Erik Karlsson’s renaissance season and Timo Meier’s leaguewide value.

Thank you for your help and for continuing to support SJHN in our quest to provide you the best coverage of the San Jose Sharks!
