SJHN Daily: Sharks Fans Won’t Have a Lot to Root for in Final
After what was undoubtedly one of the most fun postseason runs to watch this year, the New York Rangers have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final on Saturday night. With that, the Cup run of former San Jose Sharks Barclay Goodrow, Justin Braun, and Jonny Brodzinski is over.
For Goodrow, this has been an impressive fourth consecutive trip to the conference finals, having made it in 2019 with the Sharks and again in both 2020 and 2021 where he tasted championship victory with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Unfortunately, the Goodrow will not be a three-peat Stanley Cup champion this season.
This was Braun’s first return to the conference finals round since that same 2019 run with the Sharks that kicked off Goodrow’s streak.
The number of Sharks relations in the playoffs drops to two (the injured Andrew Cogliano/Colorado Avalanche and assistant coach Rob Zettler/Tampa Bay Lightning), but as they are on opposing sides of the next matchup, San Jose fans will see a former Shark lift the Cup.
The Avalanche and Lightning were ranked sixth and eighth respectively on my ten-team Sharks fan playoff rooting guide at the start of this postseason.
