The San Jose Sharks have added another goaltending prospect to their system.

According to Sport Express, the Sharks have inked Georgy Romanov to a two-year contract. San Jose Hockey Now has confirmed this report with Romanov’s agent Sergey Isakov of Newport Sports Management.

Romanov, 23, played mostly in the VHL, Russia’s second-division league, this past season, posting an 8-13-5 record with a .907 Save % for Gornyak-UGMK. He also made his KHL debut, in the shootout no less, for Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in Dec. 2022.

Over four VHL campaigns, all with Gornyak, the 6-foot-4 netminder has a 28-33-10 record with a .916 Save %.

Per Isakov, Romanov will be at San Jose Sharks development camp, which will be held in early July.

For the Sharks, the goaltending position is very unsettled going into the off-season.

With the big club, only Kaapo Kahkonen is signed, while UFA James Reimer appears headed for free agency.

Under Kahkonen, there are just two keepers signed, prospects Magnus Chrona and now Romanov. This past season’s Barracuda goalies Aaron Dell, Eetu Makiniemi, and Strauss Mann are not signed for next year, at the moment, though San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier suggested last month that he wanted to bring back prospect Makiniemi.
