REPORT: Sharks Rejected ‘Legit Offer’ for Ferraro, Interested in Greenway?
Elliotte Friedman is spilling the tea on Trade Deadline deals that didn’t happen.
And the San Jose Sharks were at the center of a lot of them.
Friedman and Jeff Marek dropped these nuggets on their “32 Thoughts” podcast on Monday:
Marek said that the Sharks were interested in Jordan Greenway, who went from the Minnesota Wild to the Buffalo Sabres for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 fifth-round pick. That seems like a high price for a 26-year-old with just two goals this season and two more years on his contract at $3 million AAV, but the 6-foot-6 physical winger is thought to have untapped scoring potential. He would’ve been an interesting “buy low”, and maybe the type of player that GM Mike Grier looks for in the off-season.
Friedman reported that the Edmonton Oilers made a “legit” offer to the San Jose Sharks for Timo Meier. Imagine that! So you can add the Oilers to the list of serious Meier suitors that includes the New Jersey Devils, Vegas Golden Knights, and Carolina Hurricanes.
Friedman also noted that the Toronto Maple Leafs batted around the idea of trying to acquire Erik Karlsson, but it doesn’t sound like it went very far because of complications from his massive contract.
Finally, Friedman said that an undisclosed team made a “real legit offer” for Mario Ferraro. While the blueliner has struggled at times this season, he’s also just 24 and still owns impressive defensive talent and compete. Grier’s price for Ferraro is said to be “very high” and supports the idea that he’s still valued around the league, as a source suggested in January:
This was a San Jose Sharks-infested “32 Thoughts” podcast! Make sure to listen to it, Friedman and Marek had more details about these trades that didn’t happen and head coach David Quinn flipping out on Gord Dwyer last Saturday.
