Could the San Jose Sharks trade Evander Kane to the Edmonton Oilers?

That’s an intriguing possibility raised by Edmonton Journal writer David Staples last Friday.

Staples’s premise, in a nutshell: The Sharks’ attempt to terminate Kane’s contract will not be upheld in arbitration, so his rights and original contract, $7 million dollars AAV and three years left would revert to San Jose. For all intents and purposes, the Oilers winger would be a Shark again.

The San Jose Sharks, obviously, have shown zero inclination to keep Kane in teal. Kane found instant success in Edmonton after signing there in January, and the Oilers have already stated that they want him back.

But it’s not that simple.
