Mikael Holm Talks Simon Edvinsson to Sharks

Kyle and JD continue their tour of potential San Jose Sharks’ draft picks by having on Mikael Holm of McKeen’s Hockey to discuss Swedish defenseman Simon Edvinsson. We start by looking at his statistical profile and why Edvinsson is so highly rated. Mikael explains why Edvinsson won’t be in the NHL for a few years (11:00) how he stacks the four top defensemen in the draft (16:00), and the most likely outcome for Edvinsson (23:00). We finish by discussing some of the other Swedish prospects like William Eklund (25:00), Jesper Wallstedt (26:30), and Fabian Lysell (28:30). Do any of them fit the San Jose Sharks?

Keep up with all things San Jose Sharks here:
Despite taking only forwards in the draft last year, I’m still hoping we select a forward at seventh overall. I’d much rather get a Guenther, Eklund or Johnson and select a dman later in the draft. If the Sharks can obtain a second round pick they could still have guys like Olen Zellweger and Stanislav Svozil to choose from. Just seems to me they can get a forward with much more offensive potential in that position.
Right now, Eklund is the guy we want the most. I’d be okay with Hughes or Clarke but I don’t think they will be there for the Sharks at 7.
I agree with Hughes as I doubt he gets past the fourth pick. I could see Clarke being available but if it came down to him or any of the forwards mentioned above I take the forward personally. Even if the Sharks can trade back to 10 or 11, both Ottawa and Chicago have multiple second round picks. In that range they could still get Sillinger, Coronato or Lysell and use the second on one of those dmen.
2nd round d-men are going to be players like: Brent Johnson, Daniel Chayka, Olen Zellweger, Jack Peart, Artyom Grushnikov, Anton Olsson, Aleksi Heimosalmi, Sean Behrens, Cole Jordan, etc.
Not to mention Scott Morrow who probably should be a first rounder and Ryan Ufko who was just named a first team All Star.
yup. i picked Morrow at #43 in a trade with CHI for the #7 overall. took Lucius at their #12 (11th overall).
That’s probably an ideal situation if they feel the difference between 7 and 11 isn’t too significant.
