SJHN Daily: Quinn Shares Harrowing Story From His Youth

Every corner of the sports world was rocked by what happened to Damar Hamlin on Monday night, the San Jose Sharks locker room no exception.
Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills safety, went into cardiac arrest after a routine tackle of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin remains in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital, but the Bills say that he’s showing “signs of improvement”.
Sharks head coach David Quinn, who was watching on Monday night, talked about the leadership shown by Bengals head coach Zac Taylor and Bills head coach Sean McDermott to take their players off the field after the NFL had asked them to re-start the game, and how this incident echoed what happened to Boston University forward Travis Roy in 1995 after Sharks practice on Tuesday.
He also shared his own on-the-court brush with mortality.
“I was 23 years old, I was playing a pickup basketball game. The guy who I was guarding, I didn’t really know him at all,” Quinn told reporters. “Running down the court, that guy had a heart attack and actually passed away 15 minutes later. There was a doctor actually playing in the game. He tried to resuscitate him and whatnot.
“I didn’t know the guy at all. It was a pretty traumatic experience for me.”

If the San Jose Sharks got the no. 1 pick, what if they traded it a la Eric Lindros?
Randy Hahn crossed the 2000 regular season game threshold on Dec 13th, which is astonishing. But as incredible to me is the joy @sharkvoice still takes in his job. This was such a fun walk down memory lane with a guy who has been there from the very start! 🎤 https://t.co/1PtXvXqWQa

Sad news. Sergei played in 1 game for #SJSharks in 1996-97, and 60 games with the Kansas City Blades of the IHL, the team's top affiliate at the time. #RIP https://t.co/Tj4JZAl7Mx
