SJHN Daily: Cogliano Advances to Final, Anna Kane Takes Out the Brooms
The number of former San Jose Sharks remaining in pursuit of the 2022 Stanley Cup is down to five.
The Edmonton Oilers have been eliminated by the Colorado Avalance in four games and with that, Jay Woodcroft and Evander Kane’s run to the Cup has come to an end. Woodcroft was an assistant coach in San Jose under Todd McLellan and Kane, of course, had his contract terminated by the Sharks in January.
Leading playoff goalscorer Kane sat out the Game Four loss because of a one-game suspension for a dangerous hit on Nazem Kadri in the previous contest. Kane’s ex-wife Anna Kane called it then:

On the other hand, Andrew Cogliano’s trade to Colorado is going very well as the Avalanche are performing just as expected throughout this post-season. After spending the first half of the season with the San Jose Sharks, Cogliano is headed to the Stanley Cup Final with the Avalanche and it isn’t a stretch to say that Sharks Territory is happy for him.
While Cogliano was just with the Sharks from the beginning of the 2021-22 season to the Trade Deadline, he impressed everybody with his professionalism and leadership.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Conference, the New York Rangers and former San Jose Sharks Barclay Goodrow and Justin Braun are still in it. While Goodrow has had a rough postseason, enduring a couple of injuries, Braun has settled in as a Rangers regular. Both Goodrow and Braun are long-time Sharks — Braun was a big part of the 2016 Sharks Final squad, and Goodrow, of course, scored the Game Seven winner to eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2019 playoffs.
Single-season Shark Jonny Brodzinski has appeared in just one playoff game for the Rangers, who lead the Eastern Conference Finals 2-1.
On the other side is expansion Sharks defenseman, Rob Zettler, who also spent seven seasons behind the bench as an assistant coach for San Jose. Zettler has served the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Avs-Rangers, Avs-Lightning, no matter what the outcome is, San Jose Sharks fans will have someone to cheer for en route to crowning the Stanley Cup champion.
