Pending UFA Cody Ceci would “love to stay” with the San Jose Sharks.

As Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News reports, the 31-year-old veteran defenseman would welcome an extension. However, Ceci shared that he has not begun discussions with GM Mike Grier.

Ceci said that he’d like term similar to the four-year contract that he’s currently finishing.

Last week, head coach Ryan Warsofsky said that he would love for Cody Ceci to return.

Ceci has been the Sharks’ No. 2 defenseman, in terms of usage, and second among San Jose defensemen with 11 points, both behind Jake Walman. He leads the team in blocked shots and PK ice-time.

He has also provided invaluable leadership for a young Sharks squad, and has helped raise their competitive level to at least an NHL standard this year.
