REPORT: MacFarland Not Allowed To Interview for Sharks GM

Credit: Columbus Blue Jackets

On the most recent 32 Thoughts post from Elliotte Friedman, it was reported that Colorado Avalanche assistant general manager Chris MacFarland was not permitted to interview with the San Jose Sharks for their open GM position.

It’s possible he finds himself in a larger role with the Avalanche, but it’s an interesting bit of insight as the Sharks’ search nears a conclusion. While there have been a number of names thrown around, MacFarland was a Sharks fan favorite because of his achievements in Colorado, including this year’s Stanley Cup.

A source told San Jose Hockey Now that he “considers MacFarland the brains behind the Colorado’s rise to power.”

So it makes sense why the Avalanche would keep him from the San Jose Sharks!

Unless it’s in someone’s contract they can’t prevent anyone from interviewing for a job – so a person just works for a company and can only leave if they get fired? Well it must be in the contract somewhere – maybe he just couldn’t interview while the team was playing in finals but I would believe he could now?
What do these people work for Gestapo organizations 😂

he’s probably got a deal to take over for Sakic soon.

Probably right which should worry Sakic if he isn’t thinking about quitting lol

Sheng Peng

Sakic should get a promotion too

See the holy tonsure forming atop his head? By Franciscan rule, once a bald spot starteth to form atop ye crowning head, especially whenst yon surrounding do is like unto a bowl cut, a friar deemed is he and he dost be forbidden to interview for any jobeth outside the brotherhood of the cup that spilleth over.

Hahahaha very clever explanation 😂

i get the permission thing, especially if stipulated in a contract, but to actually bar an employee from pursuing a promotional opportunity to better their life seems rather a-holey to me. that can lead to some resentment i’d think, unless they’ve promised him some internal path to promotion.

I said the same in my comment but someone clicked the negative and I’m thinking why? Not sure why the positive/negative rating is available under the comment anyways. If ya don’t agree then state why it’s always good to debate. Maybe I’ll see things differently maybe not but at least ideas/comments are exchanged.

david barnard

why care?

I agree

I’m wondering if Bret Hedican was interviewed? He missed announcing several games towards the end of the season. I don’t believe he likes announcing. I believe Drew will be back full time as the fans like him – Hedican did get his degree and all – seems more business like than commentator – just my opinion – I wanted Weekes but that’s not happening.

david barnard

well, he got bumped up to GM confirmed today. Sakic to Pres of Hockey Ops.
