The San Jose Sharks welcome in the Chicago Blackhawks into SAP Center on Patrick Marleau jersey retirement night. Nick Bonino and Evgeny Svechnikov and Erik Karlsson scored, but the Sharks lost 4-3 in the shootout to the Blackhawks.

Period 1

Gust goal: Not the start that the San Jose Sharks wanted. Looks like Ferraro gets too puck-focused, doesn’t cover the right-handed Gust.

Bonino goal: MacDonald with a good pinch on Blackwell, Svechnikov helps too. Bonino cleans up the rebound.

Seney goal: Kahkonen will want that back.

Karlsson gets forechecked off by Seney. I haven’t said this a lot this year, but Karlsson doesn’t look like he hasn’t a lot of pop in his feet tonight. That used to be a nightly does he have it or not conversation in recent years.

An evenly-played Bedard Bowl, 6-6 Slot Shots per SPORTLOGiQ. By even, not the cleanest display of hockey by either side.

Period 2

Eyssimont penalty: I was criticizing Eyssimont’s penalty differential recently, but I should amend, he takes and draws a lot. Eight minors drawn, now 11 taken since joining the San Jose Sharks. Not great, but can live with that.

Gregor-Murphy tilt — a whole lotta wrasslin’.

2 left: On Karlsson, lack of pop defensively too. His recovery skating has been excellent this year. Just a game anywhere, don’t want to overstress it.

Period 3

Domi goal: Karlsson pinches, Domi beats Eyssimont covering up the ice. A good shot off the crossbar and down. But after the Seney goal, not a great look for Kaapo.

Gregor goal: Good hands by Gregor though to deflect in Karlsson shot-pass. But they’re reviewing for Kaut offside. I think it might be a Makar-like continuation onside…actually, never mind.

9 left: Eyssimont does a nice job holding off Kurashev.

Karlsson goal: Grier might just trade Karlsson at the Deadline just for that lol. Great shot, great job by Vlasic to keep it alive, keep Blackhawks from exiting. That was a likely ENG the other way. Honestly, it’s just desserts, Sharks haven’t been fantastic, but a point is deserved.

OT

Couture-Barabanov-Karlsson to start OT.

Quinn doesn’t like that holding call on Couture to start. I mean, it’s not much.

10 secs left, Quinn just trying to get to OT, Lorentz absolutely hacks the Hawk with the puck lol. Why not?
