San Jose Sharks
Preview/Lines #73: Chernyshov Game-Time Decision, Dellandrea On Verge of Return
Igor Chernyshov is a game-time decision because of illness.
If he doesn’t play, Ty Dellandrea will make his return to the San Jose Sharks’ line-up.
Both Chernyshov and Dellandrea are scheduled to participate in warm-ups tonight; that’s when a decision should be made on Chernyshov.
Dellandrea will take part in warm-ups tonight & should continue to take part in Will Smith's warm-up ritual: "He might have to remind me, it's been a while. I gotta get my head around my old routines & where I go, where I don't go." https://t.co/QT6pidR6EE

If the star prospect winger is in, the Sharks should have the same lines as in their last game, a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Blues.
If not, it sounds like there will be some significant changes on the lines: Dellandrea for Chernyshov doesn’t sound like a one-for-one swap on the top line.
San Jose Sharks (34-31-7)
Yaroslav Askarov will start, meaning Alex Nedeljkovic should draw the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow.
This is what the line-up will look like if Chernyshov is in:
Chernyshov-Celebrini-Smith
Eklund-Wennberg-Sherwood
Graf-Misa-Toffoli
Goodrow-Ostapchuk-Gaudette
Orlov-Desharnais
Mukhamadullin-Ferraro
Dickinson-Leddy
Askarov
Anaheim Ducks (41-28-5)
It sounds like Lukas Dostal will draw the start.
Radko Gudas and Cutter Gauthier will not play.
Nathan Gaucher will make his NHL debut for #FlyTogether tonight.

Where To Watch
Puck drop between the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks is at 6 PM PT at SAP Center. Watch it live on TNT and HBO Max. Listen to it on the Sharks Audio Network.

Oh look. The Sharks/Oilers game next Wed is on HBO Max, too. I guess I’ll sign up for the month.
Does anyone else feel queasy about taking Chernyshov out for Dellandrea?
If it happens it won’t be by choice
I feel like I need to apologize to Delly for having doubts. I was worried about veering from the Chern-Mack-Will line that had been working.
I think Cherny is also feeling queasy. hahahahahahah
I didn’t notice him ailing after a hit or taking a puck off his body, and post game he seemed chipper giving Gauds the sharks teeth necklace. This better be only a stomach flu or other flu having him under the weather and he still plays tonight… and not some Warso hard on for Delly being healthy…Sheng give us the scoop…what kinda of ailment making Cherny iffy for tonight?
Pashelka says illness.
Make no mistake, however, Dellandrea will be playing a bunch over better players. This being the first of a back-to-back, they probably wouldn’t play Dellandrea in both right off the bat. So give him one more game and play the back half of it instead.
The people who think the team signed him to be an extra forward the next couple years, ascribing the most rational explanation for his resigning as they can, are gonna look silly. But that’s more comforting to them than acknowledging that the team just prefers shitty players.
Aw, cmon Al. Let’s turn that frown upside down.🙂
What a real Debbie downer. Shitty players wouldn’t have them in the playoffs race.
Sorry, that was a badly-written story. I didn’t include that it’s just an illness. I tweeted it out earlier, but forgot to include that major detail in the original story.
“Radko Gudas and Cutter Gauthier will not play.”
Askarov and literally everyone’s knees are thankful.
The idea of Chernyshov missing the game because of an illness and putting in Dellandrea and shifting all of the lines instead of putting someone like Regenda in Chernyshov’s place is crazy. Dellandrea is not good. He should not play another game this season.
Oh c’mon dude! Dellandrea is good. We’ve been over this so many times with the boo birds around here. He’s reliable, high energy, competitive, wins faceoffs, forechecks, can chip in occasionaly on offense, and is mostly depended on to contribute defensively. What are you looking for in a 3rd/4th liner? I do agree that Regenda should come in, but it’s not because Dellandrea’s bad. It’s just that Dellandrea is a bottom 6 player, and our bottom 6 is really gelling right now. If a top 6 player comes out (Igor) then a player capable of playing in the top 6… Read more »
I’m just not convinced Regenda should play in the top 6. Maybe we can get Zekes idea? Delly to 4C and put upchuck on Celes wing…!😜
That’s an interesting way to look at it. I lean towards the whole “don’t change a winning formula” logic, so I’m more drawn to looking for a one for one swap out if Igor is too sick to play. But hey, whatever works! If they do some wild adjustments and it works, then I’m on board!
Do you know if we’ve tried this combo?:
Graf-Mac-Smith
Sherwood-Misa-Toffoli
Regenda-Wenberg-Eklund
Goodrow-Ostapchuk-HockeyGaud
In the spirit of making as few changes possible if Chernyshov is out, I’d roll with this:
Graf-Mac-Smith
Sherwood-Wenberg-Eklund
Regenda-Misa-Toffoli
Goodrow-Ostapchuk-Gaudette
To Snark’s point, Regenda really may not be top 6, so just move Graf with Mack and Will, and play Regenda on the 3rd line.
Equally fascinating and concerning that people can see a team with Macklin Celebrini and what he has done, tied for 7th worst point total in the league after winning their last couple games, and think “these guys are all good!”
Way to stay in character.
I preferred the pre-edit comment.
Yeah I just felt bad for going nuclear. But I’m glad you saw it before I decided to dial it back
Anyone saying with a straight face that Ty Dellandrea is a good NHL player who can chip in offensively has to be the one playing a character.
I don’t think anyone is saying he chips in offensively. There’s more to the game than that at the NHL level.
100 percent agree
No one thinks that.
I think there are stats out there that say his contributions are far less than the eye test, unfortunately. I like Delly. A bit of a wince with his signing over someone like Gaudette who imo, would be a much better option. It feels like Gaudette has another level potentially and has gotten some confidence back. I can imagine he contributes a lot more offensively next season. But I also haven’t looked at his stats so maybe he’s also not that great overall.
Oh ok, I’ll take your word for it. I’m barely literate when it comes to advanced stats, but I’m not dismissive of them. It’s just hard for me to look past the eye test.
Is 5 goals in the last 154 games for a forward an advanced stat?
Tell em’ 😂
As far as you and I are concerned it is. We’re still stuck on a big goose egg between us. ;P
Guadette is signed for another year still.
Ah right, I thought his contract expires this year. Well, great!
I just drove home, 280 is all messed up so the side street route took me past the arena. Whose crossing the street right in front of me on Barack Obama? Randy Hahn.
Randy doesn’t get a good parking spot. Has to park somewhere and walk. I wonder if he has to pay at the lot he uses. Probably. Probably had a good spot at one point and then Becher realized they could make another $20 a game taking it away.
I’m sure Becher flicks him in the twigs and berries when he sees him to let him know who’s boss too.
LOL
I’ll take “Things that definitely didn’t happen” for $500, Alex
Likely Hahn is not working, and so far the TNT broadcast has been vastly superior to the NBCBA show. Too bad they don’t do many shark games
Vastly superior if you like a constant flow of inside jokes and cringe jock banter. I’m not giving Alan Hoshida any Emmy’s here, but if you think NBCCA is a turd, TNT is just a bigger, more polished turd. The second time hearing about Boucher’s suite was overkill. When it got to the 5th and 6th round of it I was begging for a commercial. And FFS, you’re on-air professionals, maybe you refer to Hnidy as “Sheriff” in introductions and here and there, but his name is Shane. Be a professional for crying out loud.
I dunno, I definitely prefer the TNT studio guys to Hoshida. As far as the Sheriff, that’s typical. I love nicknames so if didn’t bother me. I prefer hearing what unpolished ex players say. Sometimes it goes off the rails and is more entertaining.
During the game, I have come to reply on Randy and Drew to tell me what is happening, but I really dislike the Hoshida/Jamal shows between periods. I’ve tried to watch other teams and some of their broadcasters act like they are on a podcast, talking about everything other than the game. As a noob, it is most unhelpful.
Once the Sharks/Ducks got going, I was happily surprised at how well these guys called the game because their pregame show had me worried. I still have no idea who they are though…
