SJHN Daily: Toffoli Denied Hangout With Celebrini, Smith Film Room, Graf & Mukhamadullin Recalled

Will Smith is hitting his groove.
The young forward is on a six-game point streak. He has eight goals and 22 points in 46 games as a 19-year-old. These totals place him eighth in points on the San Jose Sharks and fifth among NHL rookies.
His scoring uptick is among many compliments David St. Louis gave Smith in Elite Prospects:
In the video, St. Louis breaks down some of Smith’s shifts against the Boston Bruins, where the youngster had a goal and assist. But, Smith’s offensive game is not the only thing that has improved during his recent hot streak.
“Smith is also becoming a bit more attentive in the defensive end,” St. Louis said. “He’s moving better, staying above his man, and denying passing lanes better than before.”
Previously, some media members, including St. Louis, posited that the Sharks should send Will Smith down to the AHL. But it’s nice to see him change his tune a little, which he did at greater length in this article.
“[Smith is] probably going to continue having his ups and downs, but at the midpoint of the season, he looks like he’s on a better development track than before,” St. Louis said.
AT SAN JOSE HOCKEY NOW…

OTHER SHARKS NEWS…
This fan made a photoshop of Will Smith, the Sharks saw it and traded a puck for it and then hung it up in the locker room 🤣

If Yaroslav Askarov was coming to #AHLAllStar, you knew he was going put on a show. The @sjbarracuda netminder walked it off after shutting it down during the Breakaway Relay. @TheAHL #AHL #AHLAllStar #TheFutureIsTeal pic.twitter.com/EjhYPGABnx

Mackenzie Blackwood posts back-to-back shutouts
Todd McLellan still impressive so far with Detroit Red Wings.
There are three names and logos in consideration for the future of the Utah Hockey Club.
Artyom Levshunov recalled by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Can Boko Imama stay with the Pittsburgh Penguins?
Ryan Hartman is suspended for 10 games.
Sammy Walker was sent to the Utah Hockey Club for future considerations.
David Pastrnak nets hat trick against New York Rangers.
Kirill Marchenko will be out with a broken jaw.
That’s a lot to unpack so I will only comment on one thing. Hartman with the Wild absolutely deserved being suspended for 10 games for his bush league move on Stutzle. Maybe it’s because he has a history of doing shady things in the face off circle but I didn’t think the league would go there but so glad they did.
Always been big on player safety, the NHL game is tough enough without the extra nastiness. The Dept of Player Safety rarely does the right thing, but it did here.
Read the Levshunov article, was surprised they’re bring him up. Turns out, its not quite that.
Turns out, he’s going to be practicing with the Blackhawks, not playing with them. d-men take time to develop and he’s not ready yet.
He would have been well-served by staying an extra year in college.
For #2 overall, I’d already be highly concerned he’s never going to be the player they thought he’d be. But you’re right, another year of college might have been best. I still remember Cale Makar giving the Sharks fits in that playoff series right out of school after his second year. As an aside, I know the pundits are higher on Buium, but I think Dickinson still has the highest ceiling of any of the D-men drafted last year. Also a bunch to work on, but he won’t turn 19 until June. This is even more annoying because of the… Read more »
Disagree about staying in college. To develop into an elite level player, you need to be pushed to the highest levels to see if you can handle it. If you can’t right away, you need time to figure out how to succeed at that level. Staying in college, where he already had great success, would have allowed him to score a bunch of points without developing the other areas in which he needs to learn to play in the NHL. He already showed he could do that last year in college and now he needs to work on the things… Read more »
