Preview/Lines #62: Celebrini Should Play, Thrun Injury Update, Schuldt Recalled, Duehr Waived

TORONTO — The 2024 No. 1 pick sounds like he’s ready for his NHL debut in Toronto.
Macklin Celebrini missed practice on Sunday with a lower-body injury, apparently suffered the day before at the Ottawa Senators.
Head coach Ryan Warsofsky labeled Celebrini a game-time decision during Monday’s morning skate, but after coming off the ice from skate, the San Jose Sharks’ star rookie gave a more upbeat update.
“Feeling good,” Celebrini said. “It’s going to be cool [to play in Toronto]. It’s one of the oldest franchises, you see the history and the rafters. Obviously, a very good team that we’re playing tonight, so I’m just excited.”
He parried like a veteran when asked how he got hurt.
“Umm…hockey,” he laughed.
San Jose Sharks (15-37-9)
Alexandar Georgiev will start.
It was an optional morning skate, so there weren’t any lines, but Warsofsky noted that Carl Grundstrom will come in for Klim Kostin.
San Jose Barracuda captain Jimmy Schuldt made it for morning skate and was wearing No. 59.
However, he won’t play, after his red-eye flight landed in Toronto at about 8 AM ET. Schuldt said that he took a direct flight from San Francisco at about 11:30 PM ET, after the Barracuda’s 6-5 OT victory over the Henderson Silver Knights.
Schuldt was recalled because Henry Thrun was placed on IR.
Thrun suffered an upper-body injury on Mar. 27 at the Montreal Canadiens, leaving the game twice.
“We don’t think it’s too long-term,” Warsofsky said about Thrun’s day-to-day injury.
However, because Thrun was placed on IR, he has to be out a minimum of a week, retroactive to the day after the injury, meaning that the next time that he’ll be available to play is Mar. 8 against the New York Islanders.
So the 29-year-old Schuldt, who’s got only one NHL game on his resume, could draw in for the last two games of the Sharks’ road trip, Mar. 4 at the Buffalo Sabres and Mar. 6 at the Colorado Avalanche.
Would be a nice addition to the ‘Cuda right now if he clears https://t.co/NSh2QWZ8jG
