Locked On Sharks
Buy-Low Trade Candidates for Sharks?

Which potential players could be good buy-low trade candidates for the San Jose Sharks this offseason? I examine players who could be made available via trade and why they would make a good fit for the Sharks. I start with Toronto Maple Leafs’ goalie Matt Murray and why the Sharks could get a quality asset to take on Murray’s contract. Next, why the San Jose Sharks should swing for goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from the Buffalo Sabres despite some poor numbers (10:00). Despite a logjam of left-handed defenseman, Matt Grzelcyk from the Boston Bruins should be an option (15:00). Finally, why Jack Roslovic could be a perfect buy-low candidate from the Columbus Blue Jackets to add a right-handed shot to the forward group (22:00).

Keep up with all things San Jose Sharks here:
Takes two to tango and I don’t see how the Jackets are incentivized to sell Roslovic for anything that the Sharks can afford to pay. Their cap crunch is not great but not egregious, and they’re surely hoping to make a big jump next year.
That being said, if the price was low enough, I like the player. Same with the rest of folks you mentioned.
I was surprised to see him on The Athletics’s keep an eye on trade list. Assuming if he is on there, probably a little smoke to it.
Everything trade needs to be looked at thru the lens of 2028. Pretty much agree with JD’s analysis on Murray. He is a negative value player which is the sort of thing the Sharks can advantage. Depends what they can get in return. I’d gladly take a 1st in 2027 along with Murray for a 5th in 2023. If the Sharks get lucky, Murray can get flipped at the deadline for a mid-round pick. If nothing else, he’s got a positive playoff history. The risk is the Sharks run out of cap space to weaponize for a modest pick. Luukkonen… Read more »
