SJHN Daily: The Cheetah, Jumbo & Brent Burns
Brent Burns once had snakes slithering freely in his Minnesota home?
In a recent piece on ESPN, Greg Wyshynski chatted with Burns’ current and former teammates including Logan Couture, Brendan Dillon, Sebastian Aho, and more. The NHL’ers shared some hilarious and startling stories about the 38-year-old veteran, who starred for the San Jose Sharks from 2011 to 2022.
Couture especially remembers the stories Burns would tell of his exotic animals, including a frightening story about his snakes. Couture shared: “Two of the snakes escaped at his place in Minnesota. They were lost in his house for a certain amount of time.”
The Sharks’ captain was alarmed. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, how do you sleep at night? You’ve got two massive snakes roaming around the house and two small kids at that point!'”
Burns, as we know, is a man of a million stories, and this story is chock full of them: Hanging out with Joe Thornton and getting bit by a cheetah in Columbus, what’s inside his massive “Mary Poppins” bag, and a funny Twitter interaction with James Harden.

Unfortunately, Burns, seeking his first Stanley Cup, may not be long for the playoffs. His Carolina Hurricanes are down 3-0 to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
