The San Jose Sharks welcome the NHL-leading Boston Bruins into SAP Center. The Bruins put up a quick two-spot, but Logan Couture got the Sharks back jnto it. Mario Ferraro tied it briefly, but Boston pulled it out 4-2.

Period 1

Marchand goal: Embarrassing. Ferraro doesn’t keep rush in front of him, Harrington gets walked, Reimer lets it through.

Smith goal: Bad bounce I think for Bonino trying to get it out, but man, need a stop at some point too.

Couture goal: Couture establishes position ahead of the Bruins, good effort, and Barabanov finds him right on time. Great timing from Alexander. Forbort about to tie up Couture, Nosek was a step behind too. Nieto provided decoy.

9 in: Zacha cycle chance, Benning giveaway. Reimer with much-needed save.

10 in: Good hustle by Gadjovich to negate icing.

7 left: Karlsson loses it at blueline, but does good job to skate back with Pastrnak, then plays 2-on-1 and intercepts Pastrnak’s backhand to Hall. Engaged defense from Karlsson.

2 left: San Jose Sharks standing around as McAvoy circles the net.

1 left: Soft NZ giveaway by Lindblom, he can’t just give it up like that. Then Gadjovich comes around, claims loose puck in left lane, finds LIndblom in slot for a good chance.

Bruins 6-3 Slot Shots in All Situations.

Period 2

2 in: Whata a shift from the Perfection Line. Benning shot blocked, Pastrnak gets ahead. Ferraro does a fair job recovering, at least challenging Pastrnak. Then I think Bergeron hits Pastrnak on the give-and-go. Looks like a line that has played together forever.

4 in: Bruins just so quick on loose pucks. Broken play, Marchand gets on it, crossbar.

6 in: Lorentz good hard backcheck on Zboril, no call.

9 in: Karlsson takes over in San Jose Sharks’ first quality cycle shift in this period. Credit also to Benning for keeping it alive before Karlsson hit the ice. Karlsson found Nieto on the doorstep.

Then off the draw, more chances, Meier has a great set-up by Labanc, but blocked.

10 in: Did Montgomery take a delay of game on purpose to get a fresh set of skaters but PK’ers out there? No, it looks like Forbort tried to sneak onto bench when he needed to stay out off icing.

PP1 hasn’t been great, but Sharks paying now for not taking PP2 seriously all year. If PP1 not going, they have nothing.

Ferraro goal: His high shot goes off Lindholm’s back. Lorentz does a good job engaging Lindholm in front.

5 left: Like that from Benning, takes no guff from Foligno, who cruises in for a tad late, just saying hello hit. Nothing dirty, could’ve been called. Gadjovich stands up for his guy, but gets called. That should be an even-up…OK got it, Benning had an initial penalty.

Harrington penalty: Tough momentum swing for fourth line. Lorentz had clear pathway out, but he lets himself get tracked down by Marchand. Bad hockey there. Then Harrington takes a defending penalty.

Bruins 4-3 Slot Shots in middle frame. San Jose Sharks didn’t do much until halfway through period, but they’re hanging around. Doesn’t feel that Boston has ever been really threatened so far.

If Karlsson’s franchise-record 14-game point streak ends, what a run. Two goals and 20 assists from Dec. 3 to Jan. 6.

Period 3

Clutch kill to start period for Sharks…almost. Just a filter by Lindholm hits Megna and in. But! Quinn wins the offsides challenge.

1 in: Nice cross-slot feed by Labanc, but Meier couldn’t tag it.

3 in: Don’t like that handback by Lorentz, puts his line in more trouble. Can Sharks play to win here?

6 in: Vlasic stays at home for pass earmarked for Krejci.

Pastrnak goal: Ouch. After Sharks have a nice offensive push led by Hertl line and Karlsson, they lose the one guy they can’t lose down low, Pastrnak beats Reimer one on one, no chance. Ferraro has to recognize Pastrnak there, they were both coming from behind Reimer at the same time. Not a strong game for Mario.

8 left: Big save by Ullmark on Barabanov.

6 left: Beautiful high wire handling by Karlsson under pressure after Labanc gives it to him in tough spot on PP.
