San Jose Sharks
Sharks Take McCue, Gilmartin, Jacobsson, Kashnikov
The San Jose Sharks have drafted Max McCue, Liam Gilmartin, Theo Jacobsson, and Evgenii Kashnikov.
McCue is a 6-foot-1 center who was scheduled to play for the London Knights this season. McCue, however, didn’t get any games because of the cancellation of the OHL season.
Gilmartin is a 6-foot-2 left winger who actually got 78 games with the USHL, USDP, and the American U-18 team, notching 20 goals.
Jacobsson is a 5-foot-10 center who scored nine points in 11 games for Örnsköldsvik in HockeyEttan and zero points in five games for MODO in Allsvenskan.
Evgenii Kashnikov is a 6-foot-4 defenseman who split time between the MHL and QMJHL, scoring 10 points in 22 games for AKM Novomoskovsk and five points in eight games for the Gatineau Olympiques.
The San Jose Sharks selected McCue with the 156th pick in the fifth round. They selected Gilmartin with the 167th pick in the sixth round. They grabbed Jacobsson with the 177th pick of sixth round. They took Kashnikov with the 199th pick of the seventh round.
The Sudbury Star noted, of McCue: “He’s rated by the league’s central scouting bureau and many teams are said to like his skill, smarts and two-way play.”
Per Elite Prospects Draft Guide, on self-described power forward Gilmartin:
Will Scouching wrote of Jacobsson:
“Theo Jacobsson is a guy flying under the radar that I’ve really liked. He’s gone from dominating the U18 level, to barely playing at the U20 level, to playing against men all in the same season, and there are adjustments that are hopefully on the way. He’s skilled, pretty quick on his feet, and is one of the best overall transition players I’ve tracked with an OCZT%/DCZT% split of 86.7% and 35.7% respectively. Again, if you’re talking 7th round swings on Europeans you can stash for four years, Jacobsson would be an interesting bet.”
Per Hockey Prospect, Evgenii Kashnikov is “has some good tools…He made good use of his big frame and long stick.”
Yevgeni Kashnikov, selected by the #SJSharks, is another defensive defenseman from Russia. Super physical.
