Preview/Lines #13: Like Hill, Reimer Seeks “Redemption” in Hometown
It’s a welcome quirk in the San Jose Sharks’ schedule, at least for their goalies.
Adin Hill, hometown Calgary, backstopped the Sharks to a 4-1 victory over the Flames on Tuesday. James Reimer, hometown Morweena, two hours north of Winnipeg, gets the call tonight against the Jets.
Two road games in Canada, two hometown games for San Jose’s two goalies.
The San Jose Sharks will reunite with their seven players in COVID protocol and head coach Bob Boughner tomorrow in Denver.
Hill was able to exorcise some demons in his 37-save performance at Calgary.
“My last time here in Arizona didn’t go so well,” Hill laughed. “It was nice to get that redemption here.”
Hill, then of the Coyotes, surrendered seven goals on 26 shots in a 7-1 loss at Scotiabank Saddledome in Jan. 2019. That was his only previous NHL start in Calgary.
Reimer is hoping for that same redemption tonight. He’s 1-4-0 with an .862 Save % in six appearances at Bell MTS Place, his lone win in Feb. 2013 as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also gave up seven goals in his last appearance at Winnipeg, on 34 shots, a 7-2 Florida Panthers’ loss in Feb. 2018.
“Every game is different, every team is different,” Reimer said today. “It comes down to my game and trusting it. Hopefully, the outcome is what I’m looking for.”
No matter the result, Reimer treasures the opportunity to play in front of “quite a few” friends and family, including his parents Harold and Marlene.
“It’s always special to play in front of your family.”
